LOUGHMACRORY 1 - 11 2 - 07 Killeeshil
The platform for yesterday’s win was laid in the opening ten minutes when the Lough’ raced into a healthy lead with Ronan Ward’s coolly taken goal, a score that was immediately complemented by two points from the same player and a neat effort from Damien McAleer.
Killeeshil eventually settled but Loughmacrory soon added two more points when Benny Ward and John Gallagher provided incisive passes for Enda Ward to give his side a five-point cushion at the interval, with Killeeshil’s third score of the half between those two strikes.
Killeeshil raised their efforts in the second half and, after an early free kick was cancelled out by a brilliant left-footed point from Ronan Ward, full-forward Martin Hughes delivered a spectacular shot into the top corner of the net.
With Ciarán Meenagh, Neil Mullan, Niall Kelly and eye-catching half-back, Shane Coyle, all contributing handsomely, an excellent sequence of points from Benny Ward, Ciarán Ward and the ever-industrious Gary Conway restored a five-point lead with twenty minutes remaining.
Martin Hughes replicated his earlier strike by bursting clear and drilling another unstoppable shot to the roof of the net and Killeeshil appeared to have all the momentum but once again Loughmacrory replied positively and quickly eased themselves back in front with a couple of fine long-range scores from Ronan and Ciarán Ward. Killeeshil again tried hard to retrieve the deficit in the closing stages but could muster just one more point from free-taker Shane Mallon in the final minute.
