LOUGHMACRORY 1 – 06 0 – 09 MOORTOWN
Despite a fine opening point from Damien McAleer in the first minute of the game Moortown dominated the first half of this league encounter and Loughmacrory could only muster one more score, a point by Stevie Conway during the remainder of the first half. Moortown meanwhile had knocked over six minors and so went in at the break enjoying a four point lead.
On the resumption Loughmacrory again drew first blood with a point from Ronan Ward and when Damien McAleer added his second of the evening the home side looked to have found some rhythm at last. Moortown had stretched their lead to three once again before Stevie Conway got on the end of a good cross from Ronan Ward to palm the ball to the Moortown net and level matters after ten minutes. The St Teresa’s were now in the ascendancy and further points from Benny and Ronan Ward gave them a two point cushion. Moortown however were not dead just yet. A pointed free in the twelfth brought them to within striking distance and a good strike from play in the seventeenth minute left the sides level once again.
Despite an intense finish which saw Loughmacrory’s Shane Coyle yellow carded, some good defending, some poor finishing and the intervention of the woodwork all played a part in ensuring no further flags were raised and both had to settle for a point. Loughmacrory will be disappointed to drop their first league point of the season.
