EGLISH 1 – 08 2 – 10 LOUGHMACRORY
Loughmacrory open 2005 league with fine win away to Eglish.
Loughmacrory got their 2005 season off to a good start today when they provided new manager Ger Houlahan with a five point victory to claim first league points of the season.
With Mickey McGee on county duty in Killarney, Eunan Donnelly and Ciarán Meenagh led the defence effectively having sound games at number six and three respectively. Mark McCullagh and Gary Conway held sway at centre field and in a hard working attack, Enda and Ciarán Ward always looked dangerous.
Although Eglish opened the scoring with a point in the first minute that was the only time during the match when they held the lead. Player of the Year John Gallagher, in his new role at wing back, helped himself to a point from wide on the right wing and a fisted goal and when captain Stevie Conway’s long pass found Damien McAleer he turned sharply to delivered a second rasper to the Eglish net.
Unfortunately Gary Conway had to retire midway through the second half with a damaged finger but the Lough held out to the finish.
