LOUGHMACRORY 1 – 05 0 – 09 ERRIGAL CIARÁN
The reserves were knocked out of the 2004 reserve championship when they went down by a single point to Errigal Ciarán in Pairc An Locha on Sunday. Eamon McCaffrey had two points on the board for Errigal before Connal Kelly opened the Loughmacrory account with a free in the eighth minute. Errigal had gone into a five point lead before the same player added a second point for the Lough and Sean Paul Slane’s point just before half time was Loughmacrory’s only reply to two further Errigal scores from McCaffrey and Brian Mullin leaving the half time score 0 – 07 to 0 – 03 in favour of the Ballygawley men.
On the resumption Loughmacrory needed a score to boost morale and Benny Ward, who had an excellent game for the Lough at centre half forward, provided it in the second minute of the half when he drew the keeper and slid the ball into the empty Errigal net to leave just a point separating the sides. Things began to look up for the Lough when Joseph McCracken leveled matters in the twelfth minute. Centre half back Patrick McCullagh was then sent off for a second yellow card offence and Errigal went a point up again before Benny Ward again leveled the match in the fifty eighth minute. It looked as if extra time would be required to separate the sides when up popped Errigal substitute, Mark Loughran to knock over the winning point in the last minute of the game.
