Galbally Pearses lift Harte Memorial Cup
Loughmacrory GFC held a very successful U12 football tournament in Pairc An Locha on Saturday 28ú August in memory of past players Gerard and Martin Harte, whose sixteenth anniversary will be next Monday, 16ú August 2004.
After six exciting and sporting league games Galbally and last year’s winners Kildress emerged as the top two teams. The final was a classic of U12 football with Kildress looking the sharper in the first half and going into a commanding seven point lead by the middle of the second. Galbally however came alive when they were awarded a penalty which they duly converted and from the resultant kick out the centre half forward caught the ball and sent a rasper to the Kildress net to reduce the deficit to a two points. In a tense and exciting last few minutes it was Galbally who clinched the vital score when their midfielder made a surging run through the middle to grab the game’s fifth and Galbally’s third goal to clinch the title.
Mrs. Bríd Curran presented the Harte Memorial Cup to the victorious Galbally captain. The club would like to thank Galbally, Kildress and Greencastle for their participation in our tournament and congratulations to our new winners.
