GORTIN 2 - 07 1 - 12 LOUGHMACRORY
The senior team returned to winning ways on Sunday in Gortin
It took them a while to find their feet however as the St Patrick’s had had raced into a four nil lead before the Lough men came to life. Four unanswered points from the boot of Enda Ward, who showed unerring accuracy throughout, saw the teams level by the eighteenth minute and Loughmacrory had added a further three points from John Gallagher, Stephen Donaghy and Ciarán Ward before the short whistle to go in three ahead.
The visitors continued to dictate matters on the restart, points from Niall Donaghy and another Ward free putting them five ahead after ten minutes. Midway through the half substitute Aaron Kelly made a defence splitting run out of defence and carried the ball sixty metres before laying off to Enda Ward who continued towards goal and was dragged down in the square. When Stephen Donaghy expertly dispatched the resultant penalty and Ciarán Ward pointed to give his side a 9 points lead the game looked up for the home side. A Gortin goal, their first score in thirty four minutes, triggered a mini home revival and two pointed frees for the Glensmen suddenly left the game was wide open once more. The Lough defenders then took matters in hand as first Shane Coyle put Pearse Gallagher through for a fine score and two minutes later Ryan O’Brien made a good run forward before laying off to Niall Donaghy who split the posts to open a six points gap once again. The home side continued to press forward and, following a pointed free they converted a penalty in the dying minutes which left just two points separating the sides as the referee sounded the final whistle.
