Seniors make successful border raid
Despite conceding the first score of the match and going down 0 - 03 to a point after seven minutes the seniors proved too strong in the end for an Aghaloo side who ran out of steam and commitment long before falling to a nine points beating. Despite a slow start four Enda Ward points and a fine strike form John Gallagher saw the visitors draw level at six apiece after twenty minutes. Loughmacrory took control to the match for the remaining five minutes of the first half as first Stephen Donaghy blasted to the home net from the penalty spot after Stephen Grimes had been pulled down in the square and Enda Ward had the final say of the first half sending over his fifth point to go in at the break leading 1 – 07 to 0 – 06.
The four points lead looked scant enough as they faced into the breeze after the turn around but they had kept their best form for the second instalment as first Pearse Gallagher got on the end of a good move which he himself had begun to split the posts and when Grimes was fouled Enda Ward, who had an excellent return from placed balls, the free taking duties having fallen on his shoulders in the absence of older brother Ronan, sent over his seventh point of the afternoon to put his side six ahead after five minutes. The border men pulled one back and came close to a major when a long ball in floated dangerously close to goal only to be expertly turned around the post by keeper Donal Ward for a 45 which failed to produce a score. Three further successful conversions from man of the match Enda Ward and two points from Stephen Donaghy put the game out of reach of the O’Neills and the momentum of the game died before Stephen Grimes fisted over to make it almost a double scores victory.
