LOUGHMACRORY 3 - 10 2 - 07 AUGHER
Convincing home win for reserves
The reserves scored a convincing six points win over Augher St McCartans in the curtain raiser to the senior game on Saturday.
An early goal and point from the boot of Sean O’Kane set the tone for the first half as they raced into a 1 – 02 to 0 – 01 lead. Mickey McCullagh then sent Karl Logue through for a point before the visitors added two minors to their tally. Indeed the visitors were beginning to find their rhythm and a good move saw them through on goal only to be thwarted by an excellent block from Noel McElduff. Augher had increased their total to four points before Mickey McCullagh took a pass from Sean O’Kane to bang it all the way to the Augher net and put his side four up at 2 – 02 to 0 – 04 Ryan Keenan then set up young Ryan Donaghy for a fine point before Ryan O’Brien surged forward from wing half back to split the posts. The St McCartans reduced the deficit to two with a point followed by a goal but once again Ryan O’Brien sent over taking a good delivery from Noel McElduff and, after good work from Pearse Donaghy, Mickey McCullagh laid the ball on to Ryan Keenan who rattled the visitor’s net to leave the half time score Loughmacrory 2 – 05 Augher 1 – 05.
The home side were slower to settle in the second period and Augher had sent over a free before Sean O’Kane put Kevin Grimes through to open the Lough account. Two minutes later the game really came to life as The Clogher Valley boys burst through for their second major to leave just a goal in it. Loughmacrory finished the stronger however with points from Ryan Donaghy, Sean O’Kane(2) and a great fisted effort from Benny Ward to close out the game.
