LOUGHMACRORY 2 - 03    0 - 13 KILDRESS

Seniors fall to Kildress in relegation playoff

The seniors lost their division 1 status on Sunday in Gortacladdy when they fell heavily to a Kildress side who were hungrier for victory and dominated the game throughout.
Playing with a strong breeze at their backs the Wolfe Tones led by 0 – 08 to 0 – 01 at the break Loughmacrory’s only score coming from Stephen Donaghy when he collected a rebound from  the Kildress keeper to send over.
The loss of midfielder Sean Paul Slane through injury was a severe blow to Loughmacrory as they failed to get any grip on the game in this important sector.
On the resumption of action visitors Loughmacrory looked to have some more purpose in their play as first Enda Ward pointed and then Donaghy was again put through on goal only to be hauled down in the parallelogram. When Ronan Ward expertly banged home the resultant penalty suddenly it was game on again as only three points separated the sides. Kildress once again upped their game however and had built up a seven points lead before a long ball in from Enda Ward somehow fooled defenders and keeper alike to end up in the home net to once more give the visitors hope of revival. They failed to build in this however and a point from substitute Conal Kelly was all they could muster as the Tones finished strongly to dash the St Teresa’s hopes of survival.
After eleven years in senior football It’s back to the Intermediate grade for Loughmacrory in 2010.
