LOUGHMACRORY 1 – 07 1 – 08 CARRICKMORE
Reserves exit championship in first round
In an exciting and close game of football the reserves exited the championship on Monday evening going down by a single point to neighbours Carrickmore in Pairc an Locha. The visitors had the better of the early exchanges but the Loughmacrory defence, especially the excellent full back line, restricted their scoring opportunities to the minimum.
Although Loughmacrory opened the scoring with a Paul Donnelly free in the sixth minute Carrickmore had four on the board before Donnelly added Loughmacrory’s second, again from a placed ball. The St Colmcille’s went three up before Brian McCrystal took a pass from Ciarán Ward and banged in a goal to make it level pegging after 25 minutes. Substitute Kevin Grimes then split the posts to put Loughmacrory one up at the break at 1 – 03 to 0 – 05.
Two minutes into the second period Joe McCracken extended the home lead to two but that was as good as it was to get for the Lough men. Carrickmore pulled one back before hitting the Loughmacrory net to take a lead they were never to lose. Donnelly and McCracken added two further points for the St Teresa’s but Carmen held out to go through to the next round of the championship.
