AGHYARAN  0 - 10    1 - 07 LOUGHMACRORY

Seniors finish strongly in Aghyaran.

Although they held sway for long periods of the first half in this encounter in Aghyaran poor marksmanship let the seniors down and despite Mark McCullagh opening the scoring after two minutes and Sean Paul Slane adding a free three minutes later, they found themselves trailing 0 - 03 to 0 - 02 midway through the first half. Things did not improve in second quarter as player after player shot wide of the target chalking up five wides in ten minutes. Eventually on the stroke of half time Ronan Ward and Mark McCullagh combined to send Stephen Conway through to split the posts and leave just a point in it at the break.

On the resumption of play Enda Ward took a pass from Ronan and levelled the game at four apiece. The St Davog’s then took control of the game for ten minutes and it took a fine save from Mattie O’Brien in the Loughmacrory goal to deny them a goal boost. They did however continue to dominate and  hit six unanswered points in a nine minute spell midway through the half to go into a 0 – 10 to 0 – 04 lead. Ronan Ward then latched on to a harmless enough looking ball in when he found Connal Kelly who in turn passed to Enda Ward and Enda from close range stuck the ball in the Aghyaran net and suddenly it was game on once more. Ronan Ward then converted a free and then took a pass from substitute Ciarán Meenagh and put Sean Slane through for a point to leave just one in it with five minutes to play. The visitors were in attacking relentlessly now and when Mark McCullagh was upended going through Ronan Ward made no mistake form the resultant close in free to level the match before the ref called time.
