EGLISH 2 - 08 3 - 10 LOUGHMACRORY
Massive second half comeback in Eglish.
The seniors staged a massive onslaught on the Eglish goal in the second half to turn a nine point half time deficit into a five point lead at the final whistle and so register Loughmacrory’s first win of the season.
Loughmacrory were leaden footed in the opening half as the home team dictated matters. Leading by two points to one Brendan Donnelly sliced through the visitor’s defence to bang home the first Eglish goal and when they added another a minute later the writing looked to be on the wall for the Lough. Sean Slane posted Loughmacrory’s two first half points as the home side took a 2 - 05 to 0 - 02 lead into the dressing room.
Whatever Paddy McGuigan said at the break it was a different Loughmacrory team who came out for the second period. Ronan Ward started the ball rolling as he swerved through the Eglish defence to hit the roof of the net with a left footed drive in the opening minute and this signalled the visitor’s intent as they surged forward in droves. Full forward Ward was on song now as he won the kick out and sent Mark McCullagh through for a fine point. Enda Ward was pulled down going through and Sean Slane pointed the resultant free to make it 1 - 05 to 2 - 06.
Three minutes later the full forward was involved as he and his brother Enda combined to rattle the onion bag once again to close the gap to a single point. Eglish registered the second of their three second half points before Connal Kelly was awarded a penalty which Ronan Ward expertly dispatched to the net to put his side ahead for the first time in the match with ten minutes remaining. During that ten minutes Loughmacrory controlled affairs completely as Ronan Ward added two further points before the returned Damien McAleer sent Mickey McGee through to split the posts and Connal Kelly’s left foot added an injury time point for good measure to make it a five points winning margin.
