LOUGHMACRORY 2 - 10 3 - 09 FINTONA
Under 14’s lose by a point in county final thriller
In a thrilling Under 14 final played in Killyclogher Loughmacrory came back from being five points down at half time to draw level midway through the second half but came up just short in the last five minutes as the Pearses notched the vital winning score to take the county title by the narrowest margin. The football was of the highest order and great credit must go to both teams for the fare served up before the large crowd.
Fintona opened the scoring with a point and continued to press forward with purpose but the Loughmacrory backs defended valiantly thwarting repeated efforts with some excellent defending including two blocks in the space of a minute to deny the Pearses the chance to forge ahead. A goal from a penalty started a good run for Fintona and they added three points and another major to take a five points lead at half time.
Loughmacrory refused to lie down and they opened the second half in attacking mood but shot three bad wides before finding the target. By the eighteenth minute they had drawn level and it was anyone’s game now. Fintona went one up with eight minutes to go but the Lough boys levelled matters once more and as the clock ticked down the final few minutes Fintona notched the winning point.
