DONAGHMORE 1 – 11 1 – 08 LOUGHMACRORY
Late Donaghmore goal clinches points.
Donaghmore struck for a goal in the last minute of this league encounter played on a soggy St Patrick’s pitch on Sunday to deny Loughmacrory a share of the spoils after an evenly contested game.
Enda Ward opened the scoring with a fine point in the fourth minute but by the time Sean Slane added Loughmacrory’s second from a free Donaghmore had posted three points on the board. Loughmacrory then hit a fruitful patch Stephen Donaghy taking a pass from Enda Ward to split the posts and then providing the final pass for Ronan Ward to put his side ahead 0 – 04 to 0 – 03 after twenty minutes when he toe poked a loose ball over the bar. From there to the half time whistle it was all Donaghmore as they dominated midfield and added five points in as many minutes to take a four points lead at the turn around.
On the resumption the St Patrick’s were first off the mark as they hit their tenth point to make it double scores but with Stephen Conway introduced at midfield for the visitors they began to get a hold on the game once again and, after Ronan Ward had reduced the deficit to three with two pointed frees Stephen Donaghy was quickest to strike on a loose ball for a Loughmacrory goal to level matters for the fifth time. Donaghmore went one up once more but Joseph Kelly surged forward form left half back and took a pass from Stephen Donaghy to tie the game at 1 – 08 to 0 – 11 with five minutes to go. Three minutes later Donaghmore struck for that all important goal to take both league points.
