CARRICKMORE 0 - 12    0 - 04 LOUGHMACRORY

Seniors fall to parish rivals in league opener

Although Loughmacrory opened the scoring with a pointed free from Roan Ward in the second minute of this derby and at times bad tempered encounter, Carrickmore had six  points on the board by the time Stephen Donaghy added to the visitors’ total with another dead ball conversion in the dying minutes of the first half. Mid way through the half Stephen Donaghy was through on goal and was pulled down in the square but Plunkett McCallan in the Carrickmore goal pulled off a fine save form Donaghy’s resultant penalty kick. Three minutes later Loughmacrory were reduced to fourteen men, Augustine McAleer receiving a straight red card  and the Lough had a  mountain to climb going in four points down at the break at 0 – 06 to 0 – 02.

Just as in the opening half Ronan Ward split the posts with a free in the first minute  of the second half but again the home side took control once more and had raced ahead 0 – 10 to 0 – 03 by the twelfth minute of the half. Mid way through the half Stephen Donaghy took a pass from Connal Kelly to reduce the deficit to six but that was as good as it was to get for the Lough men as the St Colmcilles knocked over another two points, one from a free and would have added a goal but for a good save from Loughmacrory keeper Mattie O’Brien.
