LOUGHMACRORY 1 - 10     0 - 12  EGLISH

Seniors gain first league points with last minute goal

The seniors scored a rather fortunate one point victory over visitors Eglish this evening, an injury time goal from Mark McCullagh gaining the St Teresa’s their first league pints of the season.  It was an error ridden game from start to finish both teams guilty of some poor passing and yielding up hard earned possession.
Loughmacrory opened the scoring after three minutes Ronan Ward sending over from the spot after he himself had been fouled. Eglish replied in kind immediately and after eight barren minutes Ronan Ward put the home side one ahead once more with the visitors again levelling at two apiece. Loughmacrory then went three up with points from Ronan and Enda Ward, and a fine effort from Ciarán Ward after a good run out of defence by full back Mickey McGee. Emmott Donaghy converted a free form out on the right and the home side looked to be cruising at 0 - 06 to 0 - 02. The men in black had different ideas however and within five minutes they had reduced the deficit to a single point before Ronan Ward added his fourth and fifth points of the half to send the Lough in at the break leading by three.
On the resumption Eglish pulled one back with a free but Ward soon put three between them again. The home side went to sleep after that and were  outscored five points to one in the next twenty minutes,  the visitors levelling the match at 10 each before going two up by the end of normal time. That two point lead meant that the St Teresa’s had to go for goal in order to salvage the game and when Enda Ward’s shot was parried by the Eglish keeper Mark McCullagh was quickest to react to send the rebound to the net and so turn a two points deficit into a one point victory.
