ARDBOE 2 - 13 0 - 11 LOUGHMACRORY
Reserves fall short in first league game
The reserves lost by 8 points to Ardboe in the first league game of the season failing to build on a promising first half which saw them go in at the break leading by three points. The game was won and lost in the third quarter when Ardboe hit a goal and five points to turn a three point deficit into a four point lead and they coasted to victory after that first major.
Loughmacrory opened with a point before Ardboe broke through on goal but Mattie O’Brien brought off an excellent save to deny the home side a goal but unfortunately handled the ball on the ground just outside the small square. The resultant free put the teams on a par but Loughmacrory then hit a purple patch notching four points through Ryan Keenan (free), two long range strikes from Connal Kelly and Brendan Ward and a point from full back Joey Kelly.
The Rossas then took over the scoring baton sending over four points to level the affair after 22 minutes. Another excellent strike form Connal Kelly settled the visitors once again and two Karl Logue frees put them ahead 0 - 08 to 0 - 05 at the turn around. Ardboe made a great start to the second half, two goals and five points putting them firmly in control after 18 minutes. The visitors were chasing the game after that and could only manage one point from play in the half courtesy of Connal Kelly along with two converted frees from Karl Logue.
