LOUGHMACRORY 1 - 08 3 - 05 DUNGIVEN
Six minute scoring blitz sees Dungiven through in Ulster League
Dungiven won this Ulster league game with a scoring blitz in the final six minutes of the first half which saw them turn a seven points deficit into a three points lead by the short whistle.
Loughmacrory opened brightly, Connal Kelly looking sharp at corner forward as he took a pass from Sean Slane to open his account in the first minute. Ciarán Ward fisted over from close range before Emmett Donaghy bagged a goal and pointed a free five minutes later to put the home side ahead 1 - 04 to no score by the end of the first quarter. That ended the home side’s scoring for the first half however as the Derry men eventually found their range. Despite having gone twenty two minutes with raising a flag they well and truly made up for lost ground bagging two goals and four points to take a three points lead at the break.
They looked as if they would carry on their scoring spree when they pointed in the opening minute of the second half but points from Connal Kelly and Karl Logue saw the home side come within two points of them after eight minutes. The next score, a Dungiven goal, proved a match winner and, although Loughmacrory exerted some pressure in the last five minutes with points from Daniel Fox and Sean Slane, it was not enough to make up the lee way and the Derry men went home with the league points.
