LOUGHMACRORY 0 - 13 0 - 07 CLAN NA NGAEL
Ward top scores in victory over Clan Na nGael
Ten points from Ronan Ward, five in each half, saw the seniors keep their promotion hopes alive as they proved too strong for visitors Clan Na nGael.
The Clansmen were first off the mark as they pointed in the opening minute but Ronan Ward replied immediately and Paddy McCullagh pointed for the Lough before Ward added another four, the first of these a fisted effort, two from dead balls after Stephen Grimes and Brian McCrystal had been fouled and a beauty from play when he was fed by Stephen Donaghy who had made a great catch and lay off. Donaghy was again provider for the final point of the half this time sending Ciarán Ward through for his first score of the evening to leave the half time score 0 - 07 to 0 - 04.
Loughmacrory opened the second half brightly Ronan Ward again the danger man as he converted two frees before sending over a fine effort from play after good approach work by the two Stephens, Grimes and Donaghy. Now leading by 0 - 10 to 0 - 04 the home side went to sleep for a spell, failing to raise another flag for twenty minutes during which time the men from North Tyrone pulled back three points. Despite this lull the home side never really looked in danger of losing the game and in the last five minutes they added another three points, two frees from the ever dependable Ward after Stephen Grimes was fouled and then another from 45 metres after Ciarán Ward was impeded going through. As the game drew to a close Emmott Donaghy was somewhat unfortunate not to find the Clansmen’s net but Stephen Grimes grabbed the rebound and fired over to clinch a comprehensive victory.
