LOUGHMACRORY 1 – 05 0 – 07 EGLISH
Championship win for Loughmacrory
On Friday the 14th of May, Loughmacrory and Eglish kicked off the Tyrone Senior Championship in Dungannon, with Loughmacrory winning their first championship match at that level.
The first half was a low scoring, but tense affair, with Loughmacrory scoring two points against Eglish’s three. Ciarán Ward got the games first score, and Ronan Ward scored the other point for the Lough.
The tempo stepped up in the second half, but it was Eglish who moved further ahead. However, Loughmacrory proved to be the stronger of the sides and gradually took control of the game. Gary Conway, who gave an inspirational display throughout the game, was goal bound from a Ronan Ward pass, when he was brought down in the square. After the resulting penalty hit the woodwork, Ciarán Ward put the rebound to the net, and gave Loughmacrory a lead which they never lost. Second half points were scored by Gary Conway, Shane Coyle and Ronan Ward.
Despite Loughmacrory’s joy at winning, everyone in Dungannon gave a thought to Eglish, who were playing their first championship match since the death of Cormac McAnallen.
