EDENDORK 1 - 06 2 - 14 LOUGHMACRORY
Seniors cruise past Edendork
Loughmacrory were much the superior team in this league encounter and with the wind at their backs they had racked up a match winning 13 points lead at the half way stage when the score stood at 2 - 10 to 1 - 00. The game was five minutes old before Ronan Ward took a pass from his brother Enda and opened the scoring with an excellent point from far out on the right wing. Emmott Donaghy added another two before the home side, on a rare foray up field levelled the affair with a goal. Unfortunately for them this was to be their only score on the opening half as the visitors dominated from there to the short whistle by which time they had added a further 2 - 07 to their tally, the goals coming from Damien McAleer and Enda Ward.
Damien McAleer put Raymond Ward through for a point before Emmott Donaghy sent over his third of the contest with a long range effort from way out on the wing. Within a minute Sean Slane fielded brilliantly in the middle of the park and fed Enda Ward who pointed from 40 metres out. Loughmacrory were now coasting and as the first quarter came to a close Damien McAleer opened up a six point gap when he banged home the Loughmacrory’s first goal after good work by Enda Ward. Ronan Ward converted a close in free before Enda struck for Loughmacrory’s second goal after good work by Benny Ward and Emmott Donaghy. Ronan Ward and Emmott Donaghy sent over two frees before Ronan finished the first half scoring with a mighty point from all of 50 metres to leave the half time score 2 - 10 to 1 - 00.
On the resumption St Malachy’s set about reducing the deficit but Niall Kelly, Ciarán Meenagh and John Gallagher gave nothing away easily in the last line of defence and the first score of the half was an Edendork 45. They added a further point before Benny Ward replied in kind when he took a pass from Gerard Donaghy and split the posts. Edendork added another 45 before Daniel Fox, who had come on for Enda Ward, put Ronan Ward through for a point and Ward then sent over a close in free when Stephen Grimes was fouled going through. The game had deteriorated as a contest now and the St Malachy’s added two pints before Loughmacrory corner backs John Gallagher and Niall Kelly combined for Gallagher to point. There was 12 points in it now and Edendork managed one further point from a free but by that stage the visitors were out of sight.
