Seniors fall short against league leaders
The seniors ended up just two points adrift of league leaders Clonoe in a close tie played by the Lough side in Sunday.
Ciarán Ward opened the scoring with a fisted point after five minutes but this was immediately cancelled out with a Clonoe free and a minute later the O’Rahilly’s pointed again to took the lead, a lead which they held to the end.
They extended their lead to 0 - 5 to 0 - 1 before Enda Ward sent over Loughmacrory’s second and then the men from the East notched a further five points which eventually laid the foundation for their victory, the home side keeping in touch with minors from Stephen Donaghy and Ronan Ward leaving the score 0 - 05 to 0 - 09 at the turn around.
On the resumption Damien McAleer pointed for the Lough and the visitors cancelled this out with a fisted effort before Loughmacrory were given a life line as the game took a turn in their favour. First Donal Ward in the Loughmacrory goal brought off a great save when one on one with the in rushing forward and a minute later the boys in yellow and black were give a boost when a long ball in from Ronan Ward sailed all the way to the Clonoe net with perhaps a slight deflection from a defender. Ward then set up Brian McCrystal for a fine point and when he converted a free himself two minutes later there was just a point in it and all to play for in the final quarter. The next six points were all from frees as the O’Rahilly’s extended their lead to four points but Ronan Ward’s accuracy from frees kept his side in touch but as time ran out the home side could not close the gap any further.
