CLONOE 4 - 04 1 - 10 LOUGHMACRORY
Minors bow out of league at Q/F stage
The old adage about goals winning matches was certainly bourne out in this minor league quarter final between Loughmacrory and Clonoe in Loughmacrory on Tuesday evening. In truth Loughmacrory held the upper hand for three quarters of the encounter but four goals from the O’Rahilly’s, two in each half, proved a mountain the home side could not overcome despite some fine attacking football in both halves.
Loughmacrory’s set up some fine attacking moves and their inside forward line of Daniel McCallan, Stephen Grimes and Daniel Fox notched six points between them in the opening half although they were somewhat unfortunate not to have at least one major to show from their efforts. Visitors Clonoe meanwhile opened their account with a goal and added three points before taking the lead with their second goal to go in at the break leading 2 - 03 to 0 - 06.
On the restart Clonoe had the ball in the home net in the first minute and despite the fact that Loughmacrory again set up numerous attacks registering a further four points and a goal from centre forward Brian Donaghy they could never get close enough to challenge the visitors and the fourth goal from the Clonoe men sent them on their way to the league semi final.
