LOUGHMACRORY 1 - 04 1 - 05 GORTIN
Seniors fall to Gortin in the rain
The seniors went down by a point to Gortin in this low scoring error riddled encounter played in atrocious conditions at home on Friday evening. A strong cross wind and intermittent heavy showers made constructive football well nigh impossible.
Loughmacrory looked the better team in the first half, a Ciarán Meenagh goal and points from Enda Ward and Noel Kelly helping them to a 3 points interval lead.
On the restart Kelly made good work to control a ball near the end line and he fed it out to Connal Kelly who pointed to increase the home lead to four. Things were looking good for the St Teresa’s now but they failed to build on this promising start and in fact didn’t score again for the next 25 minutes. Gortin slowly began to get a grip on the game and a goal mid way through the half added to an earlier point saw them draw level at 1 - 03 apiece and four minutes later they pointed to take the lead for the first time with ten minutes left on the clock.
Ronan Ward, who came on as a sub as he was carrying a injury did level the match once more and with five minutes to go things were tense as each side strove for that vital score which would clinch victory. To the disappointment of the Lough following it was the Glensmen who showed the greater hunger as they burst forward to point in the dying minutes and so earn their first league points of the season.
