Donaghmore, Clogher and Rock Playing the new ‘Go Games’ format where the emphasis was more on competing than winning. The lads performed well and improved with every game. The highlight of the season for the team was winning the Harte Memorial Tournament on 27th August.
The U-10 team, with Gary Conway in charge had a number of coaches helping out at various time during the year. The lads played in a variety of Blitz’s throughout the year against teams from Clogher, Galbally, Killeeshil, Donaghmore and Rock. During the year it was evident to see vast improvement was being made.
Similarly the U-8’s made great improvement during the year. Barney Gallagher was appointed manager at the start of the year but he called on a number of different people to assist during the season. The side competed in a number of Blitz’s organised and got great enjoyment from these.
At this juncture I firstly would like to thank all the Youth players and their various coaches and managers for their commitment and dedication to the club in 2006. I would like to congratulate the U-13 team and management on winning the Grade 3 title in October as well as the U-12s for winning the Harte Memorial Tournament organised by the club. The club also organised for U-8 and U-10 teams to play at half time in home Senior games this year and this idea proved to be very worthwhile and one, which I would strongly recommend to continue in the forthcoming season.
During the year there were a number of encouraging signs with our underage teams. But there still needs to be a lot of work done to reach the heights of the mid nineties when all our underage teams were competing in Grade 1. I believe more people and in particular past players need to get more involved in helping with our youth teams and I would encourage them to do so in 2007.
Our Ladies Senior team deserve our congratulations for retaining their intermediate status. There was also encouraging signs at underage level and with increased numbers now participating in the game the future for the Ladies looks promising. The Ladies Committee deserve special praise for their hard work throughout the year and whenever called upon did all they could to assist with tea making, fundraising and social events.
I would like to extend the congratulations of all involved with the club to Michael McGee who was again this year an ever present on the Tyrone Senior team. Although 2006 may not have reached the heights as 2005 for our County Senior team, Mickey’s performances were very encouraging to say the least. Tyrone did manage to get their hands on some silverware during the year winning the Dr. McKenna cup on 26th February with a 1-15 to 0-8 win over Monaghan and Michael was involved in this panel.
