Errigal too strong in second half
The final tally would not indicate that Loughmacrory were actually the first to score in this game as Connal Kelly took a pass from Stephen Grimes and pointed in the third minute. This was in fact the only score of the first quarter as Errigal had to wait till the sixteenth minute for their opener which came from a free. With five minutes left to the break Shane Coyle put the home side ahead once more with a long range point but Errigal cancelled this out four minutes later to leave the half time score two points apiece.
It looked as if it could be anybody’s game at this stage but the strong breeze which had been blowing across the pitch veered slightly and was blowing straight up the field and the visitors used this to their advantage well during the second half as they knocked over points from all angles to race onto a ten points lead. with five minutes left on the clock.
Too often Loughmacrory lost possession too easily and when they did make the odd foray into enemy territory there was little penetration in their attack the Errigal defence holding them at bay. Indeed the deficit could have been more but a couple of good interceptions from Ryan Keenan in the Loughmacrory goal who turned two dangerous dropping balls over the bar which might have slipped in for majors. The home side actually went thirty six minutes without raising a flag their only score of the second half coming in the last minute of play from Karl Logue but by this time the game was long beyond their grasp.
