Killeeshil 1 - 09 0 - 09 LOUGHMACRORY
Killeeshil take final league points
Although going down by three points to Killeeshil in the last league game of the season Loughmacrory put up a much improved performance when viewed against their insipid display against Aghaloo last Sunday.
Killeeshil opened the stronger with Kevin Hughes dominating midfield and had three points on the board before Enda Ward took a pass from his brother Ronan to open Loughmacrory’s account in the tenth minute. A minute later however things looked ominous for the visiting St Teresa’s when the Killeeshil full forward struck for a goal to push his team five points ahead at 1 - 03 to 0 - 01. But the Lough boys weren’t going to lie down so easily this time and they rallied their forces and dominated the second quarter knocking over six points, four from Ronan Ward (2 frees) and one each from John Gallagher and Enda Ward, in reply to two from the home side closing the gap to a single point by the short whistle at 1 - 05 to 0 - 07.
On the resumption a combination of good defending and poor shooting meant that there wasn’t a flag raised at either end until the thirteenth minute of the second half when Ronan Ward sent over a free to level the match and followed this up with another fine conversion two minutes later to put the Lough ahead for the first time at the end of the third quarter.
That was as good as it was to get for the visitors however as they failed to build on that lead and the home side came into their own in the final quarter knocking over four points without reply to finish three ahead and take the points which will see them promoted to the top division in Tyrone football next year.
Loughmacrory meanwhile are sitting in the limbo zone with 22 points form a possible 44 not enough to put them into promotion playoffs but keeping them clear of the bottom four relegation play offs.
