Reserves progress in Championship

The reserves progressed in the championship in Moy on Saturday in a fairly balanced encounter with the Tír Na nÓgs in which there was never more than two or three points separating the sides. Loughmacrory opened brightly with Eoin Mullan sending over the Moy crossbar just twenty seconds into the contest to give his team a lead which they held for most of the game, the home side never managing to get their noses in front throughout.
They did draw level before Daniel McCallan pointed twice for the visitors, his first a neat curling point from a very acute angle and within a minute he won another ball in, laid it off to Shane Coyle and was on hand to take the return and split the posts to make it 0 - 03 to 0 - 01.
The Tír Na nÓg spirits were lifted somewhat as Stephen Grimes was put through one to one with their keeper who made an excellent block and they had levelled the affair at three all by the end of the first quarter. Loughmacrory again grabbed the initiative with Karl Logue sending over a free kick but they were guilty of a couple of bad wides before Sean Slane fielded well in front of goal and turned to convert before Moy pulled one back to leave the minimum separating the sides at the break at 0 - 05 to 0 - 04.
The visitors opened the second half as they had done the first with a clever fisted point from Daniel Fox followed by a neat conversion from Stephen Grimes after he himself had been fouled going through. Sean Slane made it 0 - 08 to 0 - 05 going into the final quarter but the Lough boys were again guilty of some poor shooting sending four balls wide in as many minutes thus allowing the home team to keep in touch with two pointed frees reducing the deficit to a single point at 0 - 08 to 0 - 07.
Loughmacrory then mounted a final offensive as first Grimes pointed and two minutes later Daniel Fox made a good run through the middle and sent over to bring the Loughmacrory tally to ten with six minutes to go.
The home side did make one final rally forward but could only watch on as their last effort sailed wide of the post leaving Loughmacrory with a three point victory and a place in the quarter finals of the championship.
