CLAN NA NGAEL 1 - 14 0 - 11 LOUGHMACRORY
Clan Na nGael too strong in final ten minutes
Having played some good football to lead by three points at the turn around the seniors fell away in the second period and allowed a rampant Clan Na nGael to turn a three points deficit into a six points winning margin.
The Clansmen opened the scoring with a converted free after two minutes but Loughmacrory then raced into a four one lead with scores coming from Sean Paul Slane, (free) Stephen Donaghy Ronan Ward (free) and a brilliant long range effort for Ciarán Ward. Gareth McDermott then pointed a second free for the home side before Stephen Conway fielded beautifully and laid the ball off to Damien McAleer who in turn found the in running Stephen Donaghy and Donaghy split the posts to put his side four up once again. When Enda Ward pointed a minute later the visitors looked to be cruising. The Clans men however closed them out well for the last ten minutes of the half knocking over two points either side of a Stephen Donaghy effort to bring the half time score to 0 - 04 to 0 - 07.
In the end having played with their backs to a strong breeze the three points half time margin was not nearly enough and the home side rattled off seven in the third quarter in reply to just one point from the visitors, turning a three points deficit into a three points winning margin.
Ronan Ward did convert two frees in the last ten minutes but when a high lob in from Aidy Ball dropped under the Loughmacrory crossbar and into the net and the same player pointed two minutes later, the writing was on the wall for the St Teresa’s as they were now down 0 - 09 to 1 - 13.
Stephen Donaghy had the final say when he took a Ronan Ward pass and split the posts but by that stage the game was well beyond the Lough men.
