DONAGHMORE 0 - 11 1 - 09 LOUGHMACRORY
Reserves clinch championship opener
Loughmacrory reserves pulled off a coup of sorts as they edged out their division 1A opponents in the opening round of the reserve championship on Friday evening in Donaghmore.
The Division 1A side looked to be too strong for their 1B counterparts as they raced into a three-to-zero lead after just three minutes. Sean Paul Slane eventually opened Loughmacrory’s account after seven minutes by which time the hosts had registered their fourth point. Slane and Pearse Donaghy had reduced the deficit to two before Daniel McCallan pounced onto a Shane Coyle cross to punch to the Donaghmore net putting the visitors ahead for the first time in the match. The game then took on a completely different complexion as the Lough boys began to show a little belief in themselves and they continued to hold the upper hand, going in at the break leading 1 - 05 to 0 - 05.
On the restart Sean Paul Slane, who was having the game of his life at midfield, pointed in the opening minute with Karl Logue and Daniel Fox replying in kind to two minors from the St Patrick’s. Donaghmore closed the gap to two with a converted free before Slane registered his sixth point of the evening form a placed ball to put his side ahead once again.
With five minutes left on the clock The home side knocked over two points to leave just the minimum between the sides but Loughmacrory held out for a deserved one point victory.
