LOUGHMACRORY 2 - 09 3 - 05 EDENDORK
Ward snatches victory with last gasp penalty conversion
Senior captain Enda Ward sank Edendork’s hopes with a dramatic last gasp penalty conversion to take two league points at home on Sunday.
Goals were the order of the day in the early exchanges, Edendork striking for their first in the first minute of the game with Stephen Donaghy replying in kind for the hosts four minutes later. Loughmacrory dominated the exchanges form there to the break with Enda Ward converting two frees after Stephen Conway and Sean Slane had pointed. Then Ciarán Ward, Enda Ward again and Mickey McGee added to the tally before the visitors snatched their second goal. Loughmacrory however still held the upper hand with a 1 - 07 to 2 - 02 interval lead.
As in the opening half Edendork were first out of the blocks on the resumption again striking for a goal in the opening minute to take a one point lead. Ciarán Ward levelled matters before Edendork went in front once again with three points in succession. That was as strong as their challenge was to be however as they failed to score in the final quarter as the home side put on the pressure. John Gallagher surged forward from centre half back to take a fine point. With time running out Shane Coyle was brought down in the square and it was then that Enda Ward played a captain’s part as he stepped forward to sink the resultant penalty to the Edendork net for a dramatic victory.
