Pomeroy grab victory in injury time
Pomeroy Plunketts grabbed the two league points on offer in Loughmacrory on Sunday with a fisted point in the fourth minute of injury time.
With just two points apiece on the board at the quarter way stage the visitors struck for a goal to take a lead which they held until midway through the second half. Two points each from the Ward brothers Ronan and Enda and one from Stephen Donaghy kept the home side in touch but that goal saw Pomeroy go in at the break leading 1 - 05 to 0 - 05. Loughmacrory had their best spell of the game in the third quarter when a Stephen Donaghy point sandwiched between two from Ronan Ward saw them draw level. Three minutes later Ciarán Ward popped over their fourth of the half to put them ahead for the first time in the match.
Although the Plunketts failed to register for the opening twenty minutes of the second half when they did find their range they went on to knock over four points in as many minutes to restore their three point lead. Stephen Conway eventually put a stop to the rut with a fine effort and Ronan Ward converted a free before Damien McAleer levelled matters in the final minute of the game. The contest wasn’t over yet however and the tension was at its highest in the four minutes of added time as first Pomeroy took a one point lead only to be cancelled out by an excellent strike from substitute Mark McCullagh a minute later, squaring the game at 0 - 13 to 1 - 10. Pomeroy had the final say however with that fisted effort which saw them capture victory and the two league points on offer.
