Under 21’s suffer heavy defeat in opening match
The under 21’s suffered a heavy defeat to Cookstown in their first outing of the season in Pairc an Locha on Tuesday evening. They began brightly with John Gallagher winning possession in the middle of the field and sending a long ball in to Stephen Donaghy who fielded well and moved the ball quickly to Ciarán Ward who made no mistake from close range. Cookstown opened their account with a point before Ward turned provider for Donaghy to rattle the Cookstown net after five minutes putting his team three ahead. Cookstown took control from there on however knocking over seven unanswered points plus two goals, one from the penalty spot, to take a nine points lead. As the first half drew to a close Ciarán Ward raised Loughmacrory hopes with two fine strikes to leave the half time score 2 – 07 to 1 – 03.
That was as good as it was to get for the St Teresa’s however and Cookstown took control of the second period adding another six points to their tally in reply to a solitary Stephen Donaghy goal for Loughmacrory. Final score : Loughmacrory 2 – 03 Cookstown 2 - 13 .
