POMEROY 0 - 12 0 - 11 LOUGHMACRORY
Reserves fall by narrowest margin
On a fine sunny evening in Plunkett Park, Pomeroy, the reserves fell by the narrowest of margins to the home side in a close and evenly contested match. Conditions were perfect for football and a good open game ensued with little more than a point separating the sides at any time.
It was point for point right through the opening half with some good open end to end passages of football served up two sporting teams. Level five times at 1 all, 2 all, 3 all, 4 all, and 5 all It was Benny Ward who sent over his second and Loughmacrory’s sixth point in the last minute of the opening half to put Loughmacrory a point up at the break at 0 - 06 to 0 - 05 Loughmacrory’s other scores coming from Sean Paul Slane (2), Pearse Donaghy and Connal Kelly.
Pomeroy levelled the affair straight from the second half throw in and then enjoyed a purple patch surging three points ahead after five minutes. Benny Ward eventually got Loughmacrory’s second half challenge under way with a fine point and within three minutes the visitors had levelled the match at 9 points each, the other scores coming from Paddy McDonald and a Sean Paul Slane free. Pomeroy took a one point lead once again but Pius McElhatton replied in kind right away to level the match for the seventh time. The Plunketts then put two between themselves and the visitors and it was enough to earn the league points as Loughmacrory could only manage one more score, a pointed free from Slane, before time ran out on them.
