DRUMQUIN  2 - 08 0 - 08 LOUGHMACRORY

Drumquin keep Seniors feet firmly on the ground

Ryan McCallion and Paul McLaughlin were in devastating form when between them the scored 2 - 07 of Drumquin’s 2 - 08 total in their six points victory over visitors Loughmacrory on Saturday. The match was played on the small council pitch as the new pitch has had a face lift and is not playable at the minute and this hampered the style of play somewhat but in truth the result would have been no different had the match been played in Croke Park.
McCallion’s first point came after ten minutes and was sandwiched between two similar scores from the visitors as Emmott Donaghy had opened the scoring a with a fine effort and Sean Paul Slane converted a free from out on the right wing to put the Lough back in the lead. It was a lead which was short lived however as McLaughlin then got in on the act when he burst through for the first of Drumquin’s two goals. When the Wolfe Tones were awarded a penalty a few minutes later the visitors looked to be in trouble. Mattie O’Brien in the Loughmacrory goals put some heart back into his team when he brought off a great save from the penalty but unfortunately dislocated his shoulder in the process and had to be stretchered off the field. When the game resumed Loughmacrory were in the ascendancy for a five minute spell which saw them draw level with two converted frees from Enda Ward and Sean Paul Slane.
Within the first minute of the second period Paul McLaughlin had split the posts but this score was soon cancelled out by a Ronan Ward free. McCallion then made a telling contribution to the game sending two placed balls over the bar and was then first to react when the ball broke loose outside the 13-metre line and he first timed it to the Loughmacrory net to put his side five points ahead on a 2 - 04 to 0 - 05 scoreline.
Ronan Ward, who had been having a quiet game by his usual high standards, then closed the gap to two with three converted frees and it looked as if a Loughmacrory revival was on the cards. But when wing back Tomas McAroe went forward to take a fine point the Tones raised their game once again and the terrible twins, McLaughlin and McCallion, knocked over three further points,
