LOUGHMACRORY 1 - 09 1 - 07 TYHOLLAND
Seniors make successful start to Ulster League
Loughmacrory opened their Ulster League campaign in an evenly contested affair with this two point victory over Monaghan side Tyholland in Loughmacrory.
Ciarán Ward opened the scoring with a point for the home side after five minutes and Gerard Donaghy added another before the visitors levelled matters at two apiece. The Lough were two up again by the quarter way stage when Donaghy pointed again and new captain Enda Ward followed suit five minutes later. Tyholland however finished the half strongly with three points to lead 0 - 05 to 0 - 04 at the break.
Loughmacrory opened the second period brightly with Brendan Ward taking a great pass from Ronan Ward and rattling the opposition net. When two minutes later Ronan Ward fielded a high ball and turned to split the posts himself they looked to be on the way to a comfortable victory. But by the three quarter stage the Monaghan men took the initiative again. In one incisive attack they opted to take a point when a goal looked to be on the cards but made amends two minutes later when the full-forward goaled to put his side ahead for the first time in the match.
Ciarán Ward soon settled Loughmacrory nerves with a fine point and Ronan Ward then put his side back into the lead. With five minutes to play Tyholland levelled matters again from a free but the home side finished strongly however, with a point from Ronan Ward, his third of the second half, and, with time almost up, one from substitute Connal Kelly.
