TRILLICK 3 - 06 2 - 10 LOUGHMACRORY
Ward bangs home dramatic injury time winner
Ronan Ward was the hero of this dramatic Loughmacrory victory in Trillick when he banged an injury time free all the way to the Trillick net with practically the whole of the Trillick team between him and the goals to turn a two points deficit into a one point winning margin.
Ward had opened the scoring with just two minutes gone in the first half but the home side’s reply was quick and decisive - a goal at the other end within a minute. It looked as if the Ward brothers were keeping the scoring to themselves as Enda sent in a long range effort which dropped over the Trillick keeper’s head and into the net to put the visitors ahead again. Two excellent strikes within two minutes form the accurate boot of Stephen Conway, and a fine point form Stephen Donaghy put the visitors four up but the home side again replied with a goal and a point to restore parity. Again it was Ronan Ward’s turn to take up the gauntlet and he duly obliged with a converted free to put his side one ahead going into the break.
The same player was first to draw blood on the restart but two pointed frees from the home side brought the teams level by the three quarter stage. Once more the Loughmacrory men surged ahead with another accurate conversion from Ward and a point from midfielder Ciarán Meenagh who took a perfect pass from Stephen Conway who had fielded brilliantly and fed Meenagh as he raced through. But the Reds were not going to let the match slip form their grasp so easily and for the third time they struck for a goal at a decisive time and added two points to take a three points lead with only five minutes remaining on the clock. Stevie Conway reduced that lead to two with a free from out on the left before Ward struck for that last gasp screamer to cap an excellent performance and clinch victory for his team.
