LOUGHMACRORY 1 - 10 2 - 13 GORTIN
Poor second half display costs seniors the points as Gortin finish strongly
This the first evening league fixture of the year was played in excellent conditions with visitors Gortin registering two points in the opening three minutes. Stephen Donaghy then opened Loughmacrory’s account with a fine point in the seventh minute. Although Gortin added another two points to go 0 - 04 to 0 - 02 up, wing half back Joseph Kelly rattled the Gortin net with a superb finish to a good build up midway through the half, Loughmacrory looking like they had found their rhythm at last. Stephen Donaghy then added a further minor to send his team in at the break leading 1 - 04 to 0 - 06.
If Gortin had the better of the exchanges in the opening minutes it was the home side who came out with all guns blazing after the break, knocking over three points in as many minutes, two excellent scores from Stevie Conway, one off each foot, either side of a similar score from Enda Ward, to put them into a commanding four points lead.
That was as good as it was to get for the home side however. Having closed the gap to two points ten minutes into the second period the visitors struck for the first of their goals to regain the lead. A point from Shane Coyle and a converted free from Enda Ward was all Loughmacrory could muster during the next thirty minutes as the Glensmen took control of the game adding a goal and four points in a ten minute spell that set them on their way to victory. Loughmacrory did mount a few late rallies but an injury time point from Stevie Conway was much too little far too late.
