LOUGHMACRORY 2 - 11 1 - 07 POMEROY
Seniors defeat Pomeroy to progress in playoffs
Although Loughmacrory dominated the early exchanges in this Division 1B playoff they missed a penalty and two other goal chances in the first half. They were still two points ahead at the break however with Ronan Ward and Ciarán Ward on target giving them a 0 -04 to 0 -02 interval lead.
Ciarán Meenagh stroked over a couple of fine points after the restart but a fortuitous goal, which came directly from a 50-metre free, gave Pomeroy a huge boost and they sneaked into the lead. Two points form Ronan Ward swung the pendulum Loughmacrory’s way again but Pomeroy then struck three points in a row to lead by 1-6 to 0-8 with ten minutes to go.
The turning point for the Lough’ came when Damien McAleer collected a superb pass from Ciarán Ward and smashed the ball into the bottom far corner of the Pomeroy net. When Ronan Ward combined with Stephen Conway and cleverly notched a second Loughmacrory goal three minutes later, it gave his side an advantage they never looked like losing, especially with John Gallagher, Niall Kelly and Mickey McGee marshalling things well at the back.
Ciarán Ward (2) and Paddy McDonald added points in the closing stages as Loughmacrory finished impressively emerging 2-11 to 1-7 winners.
