POMEROY 3 - 03 0 - 06 LOUGHMACRORY
Seniors leapfrogged in ACL 1B table by Pomeroy
Three goals in the space of four minutes midway through the second half set Pomeroy on their way to victory in this, the second last league game of the season. The first half was a dull affair in the teams accumulated a total of three points between them, Loughmacrory leading by 0 - 02 to 0 - 01 at the break.
With Gary Conway operating at full back his services were sorely missed in midfield where Pomeroy held sway. The Plunketts had a point on the board by the time Ronan Ward opened Loughmacrory’s account in the twentieth minute and a further point from half back John Gallagher concluded the scoring for the first half.
On the resumption Mickey McGee opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a fine point having been set up by Ronan Ward. After Pomeroy had replied with a point at the other end Shane Coyle, in an effort to emulate his fellow half backs, saw his effort just graze the outside of the post. Then within a few minutes the home side had gone nine points ahead when they banged home three goals in succession to go 3 – 03 to 0 – 03 up. Twenty minutes into the second half Enda Ward became the first Loughmacrory forward to score from play when he split the posts from out on the left. Two minutes later his brother Ronan pointed a free but by this time the game was well and truly outside Loughmacrory’s reach. In the dying minutes Eunan Donnelly was hauled down going through but Ronan Ward’s penalty was blocked by the keeper and Ronan could only manage to send the rebound over the bar to conclude the scoring.
