Lough lose Championship Final
Loughmacrory Under-16 girls lost in the championship final on Saturday October 8th against Cappagh. It was a game that the Lough always were playing catch-up in and in the end just weren't able to repel Cappagh's strong running game. Although the Lough started badly, conceding a goal after ten minutes and finding themselves five points down, they fought bravely to the end. Indeed when Karen Kelly blasted the ball to the Cappagh net mid way through the first half to reduce the deficit to just two points it gave Loughmacrory hope and confidence.
Kerri Grimes pulled the sides level before the break with two fine points to leave the sides level at the half way stage. Cappagh came out in the second half and imposed their strong running game which caused problems for the Lough defence, led by captain Rachel O’Brien. On the back of this Cappagh scored two goals in the space of five minutes to put the gap between the sides to seven points. Loughmacrory fought to the bitter end but at the final whistle found themselves five points adrift and it was Cappagh who lifted the championship title. Although the Lough will be disappointed at getting beat their is one thing for sure this group of players will probably appear in many more finals in years to come. Erin O'Brien was Brilliant at corner back, Edel Donaghy and Karen Kelly were very good at midfield while up front Laura O'Kane, Kerri Grimes and Colleen Grimes played well.
